Community members' involvement in the school goes beyond classroom volunteers: community members are encouraged to share their expertise to help students learn. Community members can share their passion for a hobby (for example, piloting for a physics class, or gardening for a biology class) or contribute knowledge from their profession (for example, architecture for a geometry unit, or theatre or art, for a "dramatization" in history class, or journalistic writing for an English class). Seeing adults engaged with their learning helps students understand the relevance of their class work to the "real world." Students are more motivated when they "see the point" of their studies, and how they are applied in pursuits after high school is over.
Involving community members in the life of the school enriches learning for the students, and demonstrates once again the relevance of what students are learning to the “real world.”
