We have engineered a Network that incorporates all the key security and program applications necessary to support Animas High School’s educational model. Our campus will be a completely wireless environment with secure access points and a powerful internet signal present throughout our building. We’ll have the ability to monitor the web and protect our network with a powerful firewall, designed to keep our students safe and their information secure. We understand the loss of critical information can be devastating and we’ve designed a redundant network, powered by efficient servers with back-up power supplies to keep our programs up and running.
We’ve taken failsafe measure to ensure our staff can facilitate technological strategies that are based upon our students needs and will include the demands for both web based software and powerful, client side applications. Our classrooms will contain essential supporting tools and resources our teachers can employ in lessons and projects. To support more advanced needs and provide our students a place to work on digital portfolios, presentations and projects, our plans call for an additional 25 computers in a digital media lab that will place cutting edge, 21st century applications in our students ands. We are building a system that can be scaled up as we grow, that is engineered to the needs of our students, staff and sufficiently supports our educational methods. We’re excited to offer this access, security and infrastructure to the AHS community and we look forward to installing the plan over the coming months.
What if I want to bring my Laptop?
Students are always welcome to bring their own technology with them to school. If a student wishes to use their own laptop at AHS it should meet the following minimum criteria:
size, it must be small, lightweight and very portable, fit comfortably under the arm or in that
backpack.
sturdy, it must be tough, sturdy, rugged, and able to take more than one hard knock because students are students!
connections, wireless connections should be offered, AHS campus is completely wireless and a student should be able to access the internet anywhere. Most notebooks have these connections but check -- a printer port, a 56Kbps-modem, a VGA port for an external monitor, and should have at least one USB port for external keyboard/mouse, digital cameras, drives, and MP3 players.
technical specs, it should have enough RAM (minimum 2GB), storage space (hard drive) and computing speed to do any job the student can throw at it.
battery life, make sure your student notebook has a reasonable battery life, 2 hours or more.
price, it should be reasonably priced, refurbished laptops may be an option for those on a strict budget.
If you have further questions regarding laptop specifications, please give us a call!
